In collaboration with the AWS User Group Zimbabwe, the Eight2Five Innovation Hub, powered by Old Mutual, launched a portal for the Zimbabwean Amazon Web Services (AWS) user community. The launch of the platform coincides with the growing global adoption of AWS by startups, businesses, and developers. AWS’s improved cloud capabilities are anticipated to produce a number of important advantages and efficiencies that can help enterprises succeed and yield significant economic benefits to Zimbabwe.
With the help of skilled and capable AWS Partners, Amazon Web Services (AWS) is committed to assisting public sector customers’ innovations in order to quickly deliver smarter and more efficient citizen services. Over 400 AWS-focused user groups have been organically organised by various Communities around the world, and Zimbabwe has now joined the list. The User group, which was recently launched at the Eight2Five Innovation Hub in Harare, is a peer-to-peer network that will gather on a regular basis to share ideas, answer questions, and learn about new services and best practices. Additionally, they are able to introduce AWS’ Cloud Computing to professionals and students who have never utilised it by offering advice through learning routes and exam certification vouchers.
The event received an overwhelming amount of registration and was held in person at Eight2Five Innovation Hub while streaming on zoom and the official Facebook page. Tech enthusiasts came in numbers to witness the launch and forge relationships for collaboration, skill sharing, and support. Speaking at the launch on Saturday, the Old Mutual Head of IT Mr. Muzvidzwa encouraged aspiring young people to make use of the platform for skill and career advancement through cloud computing. “Take advantage of the AWS certifications and this user group we have launched. We are open to continuing the conversation with experienced and skilled enthusiasts to explore possible partnership opportunities.”, he said.
In accordance with its objective, Eight2Five is dedicated to empowering young people who are eager to find innovative solutions to the challenges confronting the country’s economy. One member of the AWS User Group expressed her enthusiasm for being a part of a community that is utilizing cloud computing to keep up with the times. As she urged people to join, she conveyed her gratitude to Old Mutual and Eight2Five for making the event possible. “We are grateful to Old Mutual and Eight2Five Innovation Hub for making the event possible. Now that we have this user group, we are targeting individuals and organisations who have an interest in cloud computing and are looking to migrate and manage their cloud workloads. We also hope to attract fledgling developers who are still getting their footing through workshops and seminars like the one we held recently and the promise of course of access to vouchers/credits to encourage certifying.”, said a member of the Zimbabwe User Group, Hilda Machando.
There are plans for regular meetings, projects, and workshops in the future to help the Zimbabwean user group and community improve their practical abilities. Anyone interested in technology is welcome to join and benefit from a network of like-minded individuals.
